Welcome to the Class 31 Collection. For many years I photographed the railway as often as possible, until the slew of class 66s and units wore me down. Subsequently I have devoted a good part of my time to collecting railway images. I good proportion of these are of class 31s, for which I developed an illogical fondness. Maybe like me they were getting on, overweight and underpowered.

 

I have sorted the available images out in to galleries for each locomotive. They are listed according to their TOPS number, rather than the D5xxx number that they were originally bestowed with. A photographer credit is provided, where known with each image. I have not knowingly used any images with anyone else’s copyright attached. The images are also of variable quality, but please bear in mind that the oldest of these is now over 65 years old.

 

The identity information relies to a great extent on that provided with each when I acquired them. Many have been proved to be wrong. I also have a large number of so far unidentified 31s which I will gradually add to the galleries. Any clarification that anyone can offer is always welcomed; I don’t know it all.
